Customer reviews
Been using this for over a decade at our local stocked lake. Chartreuse and rainbow colors consistently outfish everything else in my box.
Works really well but gets your hands sticky and smelly. Worth it for the catch rate though, especially early season.
Took my kids trout fishing and this bait made it easy for them to actually catch something. The dough is simple to mold onto small hooks.
Works best in ponds and slow rivers. In faster current it washes off quicker than I'd like, but still my go-to for planted trout.
The bait itself works great but the jar lid doesn't seal well after repeated use, so it dries out faster than expected.
Berkley PowerBait Trout Bait has earned its reputation as one of the most trusted dough-style baits among trout anglers, and for good reason. This soft, moldable bait is engineered with Berkley's proprietary scent and taste technology, releasing a powerful attractant trail into the water that draws trout in from a distance and keeps them interested long enough to strike. Whether you're fishing stocked ponds, mountain streams, or reservoir waters, this bait consistently proves effective because it appeals directly to a trout's natural feeding instincts rather than relying on visual mimicry alone. The bait itself has a pliable, putty-like consistency that anglers can mold directly onto a hook, allowing for customizable presentations depending on water conditions and depth. It comes in a wide variety of colors, from natural hues like rainbow and fluorescent orange to brighter shades such as chartreuse and pink, giving anglers the flexibility to match water clarity, light conditions, or simply experiment to find what the fish are biting on that day. Many versions also float, which lifts the bait off the bottom and keeps it suspended in the trout's line of sight, increasing visibility and strike potential in both still and slow-moving water. Convenience is another strength of this product, as it comes packaged in a resealable jar that keeps the bait fresh, moist, and ready to use across multiple fishing trips. Its long shelf life and mess-contained packaging make it easy to toss into a tackle box without worrying about spills or premature drying out. For anglers targeting stocked trout in particular, Berkley PowerBait Trout Bait has become something of a staple, valued for its simplicity, affordability, and proven track record of putting fish on the line even in heavily pressured waters where trout have grown wary of more traditional lures.
